- (Sep 28) The D.C. Office of Planning will hold a public hearing on the Brookland/CUA Metro Station Small Area Plan on Tuesday, September 30 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm on the campus of Catholic University in the Gowan Hall Auditorium, at Michigan Avenue and John McCormack Drive, NE. Those wishing to testify at the public hearing should register beforehand by contacting Deborah Crain, Ward 5 Neighborhood Planner, by phone at 202.442.7615 or e-mail at deborah.crain@dc.gov.
- (Sep 24) D.C. has started construction on the $4 million Union Station Bicycle Transit Center. Scheduled to open in the Spring of 2009, the 1,700-square-foot building will be able to accommodate parking for 150 bikes. There will also be a repair shop and bikes for rent in the same building. - (Sep 18) D.C. Arts Update! There are plenty of interesting events taking place in D.C. this fall season. Here are a few that have caught my eye: Distinctive sculptures by native Washingtonian Martin Puryear are on exhibit at the National Gallery of Art through September 28. The Shakespeare Theatre Company's all-male production of Romeo and Juliet is showing at Harman Hall through Oct 12. The Wizard of Oz takes the stage at the Warner Theatre this December with tickets on sale starting September 19. The Duke Ellington Jazz Festival will take place in the first week of October at venues citywide. Vocalist Cesaria Evora is set to perform at GW's Lisner Auditorium on October 5. Click on the embedded links for more information.
- (Sep 15) Bank of Georgetown, D.C.'s fastest growing hometown bank, has opened two more locations. The first is located in Penn Quarter at 822 E Street, NW. The second new branch is located at 1350 I Street, NW which was formerly an Urban Trust Bank branch. Bank of Georgetown took over Urban Trust Bank's branch when they closed that location. I am impressed with the growth of Bank of Georgetown. Deposits at the D.C. chartered community bank have grown from $95 million as of June 30, 2007 to over $204 million as of June 30, 2008. This is a bright spot in the face of the turmoil that some financial institutions are facing right now.
